Fantasy Narrative

This week we explored shooting photos of toys and creating reality in fantasy. At the same time as creating a real scenario we also created depth with each of the figures and focus points. I also blurred objects to create the illusion of movement.

Portrites

For this assignment we took pictures of peoples faces in front of a white background. Our inspiration came from Richard Avedon's portrites. We tried to make the lighting even on the face and capture a real moment that is not masked by insecurity or a fake smile. These photos that I took are all on on person which helps to get a full understanding of what she feels in different situations. I tried to ask question to get the model comfortable and let down their guard. Though one may think these expressions are similar, I tried to let the viewer look closed at how each expression has something different behind it. 

  

Creating Depth Through Repetition

For this assignment we had to play with depth for a third time but focusing on repetition. We had to have our subjects repeating from the front of the frame to the back. For this weeks assignment I looked at objects that use and see everyday but may never notice. I blurred some of the photos so the viewers eye would find the center point of the photo. 

Creating Depth

Another approach to creating depth is through creating space between two objects. By making an object in the foreground in relation to another object in the background you can create depth. This week I explored the use of Blurring objects to create the allusion of motion. (I've broken up the images based on theme, hope that helps)

For this assignment we had to play with the concept of depth. We created the allusion of depth by placing lines going from behind the camera to straight in front. I used objects that had lines but were circular creating more depth so you feel you can go around or behind the subjects. I wanted to make the viewer feel they are about to hit or need to move out of the way of the subject. 

Rule Of Thirds

       In this assignment we had to imagine there was a grid on out photo, splitting it in to nine squares. Instead of placing our subject in the middle square, we experimented with placing the subject in the corners. During this week I played with the imagery of lines separating the photo as well as imagining lines that separate the photo into nine squares. Many of the photos have their subject behind lines as well or next to or in front.

Each of these photos were taken from different angles and heights. At least nine were taken at different distances to make them all unique yet flow together. I played with the manipulation of lighting and contrast over the course of four days. Many of the photos were approached by changing something or someone we see everyday and looking at them from another angle.
